I can't really think of anything to write here so I ganked an
interview I did to fill in in the meantime. Unfourtunatly I was
interviewed under a message board nick name. Yeah, I'm
LilGreenMan :)
This is the Myspace Artist Interview, where yours truly interviews most of the talented artists on
my friends list. My next guest goes by the name of "LilGreenMan". VERY humorous guy. Funny,
and fun to be around. And also to note that he is a very talented artist. You can check his page
out on my Top 40 friends list.
1. LilGreenMan.....?? *LOL* What made you think of that name, if not mind asking?
Well, my favorite color is green so I was thinking for a nickname for a message board I joined. Since green
was taken I went further into my head and realized how much I find aliens to be friendly every time they visit.
So I decided to be a representative for them and call myself a name everyone associates with aliens.
LilGreenMan.
2. So tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a pretty open person but I’m also very much in my world at times. I’m intrigued by odd things and the
outdoors.
3. When did you discover art? How did it affect you?
Hmm. This is a tough one. I didn’t really discover art in so much as it was in grained into my genetic code.
Really. I am a very observant person and always have been. As a little kid I used to draw my imagination. At
about 3 years old my mom decided to show me how to draw a simple car and boat. I did it exactly as she did.
Soon after I started drawing star wars stuff even though I never saw the film. I did have the toys and saw the
T.V. specials and always thought it was neat. My mom was a big part of me getting into art where I knew it
was art and not just another toy.
4. What do you think of the medium today? Elaborate with us on comic books then and now.
When I first got into comic books the art was good but simple. That is not very detailed. As a kid I never
noticed. As I got older artists started to bring more detail into everything and although it looks good it
sacrificed the energy and delivery of comic books. This really hurt the industry as far as comics sales. When I
was younger no book was ever late.
5. Who’re your influences?
My mom. Art Adams had a big role in my teen years. Before that I didn’t really look at artists or styles and just
drew what was in my head. I actually have some of that art still around and one day I’ll scan it for archiving.
Erik Larsen is a guy who I can respect and admire as well. He is the guy who makes comics the way they
used to be made. Timely and simple.
Outside of comics I’d say Leonardo DaVinci, Salvador Dali, Norman Rockwell, Escher and recently a local
guy named Sy Ellens. Awesome landscape portraits.
6. The picture in your profile. Is that you when you don’t get your way?
Oh man, I used to draw angry face pictures every time I got frustrated.
7. You still want a PSP?
Heck yeah. Portable is my life right now so it’d be fitting.
8. What’re your favorite comics then and now?
When I was young and had no friends who read comics my dad would bring home Superman, Batman, Sgt.
Rock and Star Trek from his job (Supply sargent at an army base). I enjoyed them. Later, when we moved, I
had a friend introduce me to G.I.Joe digests as we shared detention for a whole year in 5th grade. My first
faves were silver surfer, early vol 2 ghost riders and a slew of black and whites including Black Thorne (this
after I discovered a comic book store). &0s Hulks also found a way in there.
Now I can’t really say. Nothing seems quality and when it does it peters out to crap. I’m aiming more for
graphic novels and right now I want to check out world war Hulk.
9. Favorite writer?
I used to love Dave Micheline and Ann Nocenti. I could go with the flow and say Alan Moore or Neil Gaimen
but I only like a couple Alan Moore stories and I honestly have never read any Gaimen outside of books.
10. Any projects that you are working on at this time? If so, can you elaborate a little on what it is?
Just trying to fight my way into freelance illustration. Only projects I have are film based and animation. My
own personal animation project is just for fun and shows an alien world and how the food chain works there.
11. Final word. What advice can you give to an inspiring artist out there, as well as myself?
It can’t be said enough. Practice Practice Practice! Also listen to other artists who admire, sometimes they
know what their talking about. I still learn new things everyday. As far as an actual creative process tip, I
cannot stress enough the importance of critiquing your own work by looking at it in a mirror. Makes it look like
someone else did it and as such your able to see it with fresh eyes.
12. That’s a very sexy picture of you up there.....
I am a very sexy man.
LilGreenMan, Ladies and Gents.
